In “Real Rain”, Psalm Zero takes their electronic percussion and synth arrangements to new levels of intricacy and clarity, while further refining the brutal-vs.-melodic tension always at the core of their sound. Harsh backing vocals are provided by guest Paul Delaney (of Black Anvil, and classic New York hardcore band Kill Your Idols). “Real Rain” takes its title from the film “Taxi Driver”, where Robert De Niro’s unraveling character gives a chilling monologue on the urban decay of 1970s New York, and his vision of an apocalyptic cleansing flood. Psalm Zero updates and twists these themes, applying them to the contemporary culture of their now-gentrified city.

“Real Rain” is the first of three Psalm Zero singles, collectively titled “The Birthright Trilogy”. Over the course of 2015, each of the singles will be released as a limited edition cassette by Black Mass, with exclusive B-sides. The songs will eventually be included on Psalm Zero’s next full-length album for Profound Lore Records.

Each single of “The Birthright Trilogy” will also be accompanied by a video, each one created by a different young director. “Real Rain” was directed by Winston H. Case, known for his work with Perfume Genius, Wolf Eyes, and Grimes. Case filmed the piece in the avenues, shops, and condominiums of Williamsburg Brooklyn.

The B-Side 'What Happened Here', is a collaboration between Psalm Zero and electronic musician 'Oneirogen'. The track fuses elements of Psalm Zero's sound with drone influences and ambient textures.
